October News 2018

Mid-term break is fast approaching! I hope the break is a great time for rest and time together, when it comes.

All children in the school will be reminded about their personal safety in the coming weeks; covering aspects around safety near bonfires and fireworks and about remaining visible as the daylight closes in earlier each evening.

Congratulations to 5th and 6th Class who participated in the Fair-Play Soccer tournament on Wednesday 10th October. They represented themselves and their school excellently. The tournament is taught as conducted as part the Show Racism The Red Card programme and hosted by An Garda Síochána.

After-schools programmes are up and running for the term. I am aware of a significant number of pupils disappointed to not secure a place in a club of their preference. Mrs Shipman is co-ordinating the programmes and will do her best to ensure those who were not successful on this occasion are prioritised for the coming term. She will conduct sign-ups in December, in preparation for the term ahead. (Payment for term 2 will not be required until after Christmas.)

The Parents Association A.G.M. took place in the school on Thursday 11th October 2018. The Parents Association are always very active in organising events both for parents and for pupils. They are also involved in active fundraising on behalf of the Board of Management for specific projects around the school. The playground re-surfacing to be completed this month is being funded significantly through funds raised by the Parents Association, last year

Homework Policy is under review this year. The Board of Management will be seeking the views of parents, teachers, pupils and Department of Education and Skills guidelines to inform the review of the current policy. Please make sure your voice is heard in the discussion by contributing.

Yours sincerely, Martha Woolmington Principal Howth Road Mixed National School
